El primero es el romance de Medea y Jasón, que la Estória general, compilada durante el siglo XIII, relata de este modo: | The first one is the romance of Medea and Jason, that the General History, compiled in the XIIIth century, narrates (as translated by Craig Epplin)  in this way:

Medea, pues que estas yerbas y estas virtudes vio en su confección que había guisado, llegó a Jasón y degollolo. E hizo salir toda la sangre vieja. Y mientras la sangre salía tomó ella el caldero de sobre el fuego con sus yerbas confeccionadas, entibiadas cuanto era menester. Y, pues que la sangre fue salida, metió las manos en el caldero y sacó de las yerbas y del zumo; y abrió la boca a Jasón y metiole de ello en la boca y de ello le echó en la llaga.

Y (luego que la medicina fue entrando y descendiéndole por la boca y por la garganta, y lo de la llaga por los pechos) los cabellos de la barba y de la cabeza –que Jasón había de antes tan blancos como la nieve– comenzaron luego a dejar aquel color y tornáronse negros. Y llenose él de carnes, y tirose de él el color amarillo y las entradas de la carne, y allanáronsele las arrugas, y tornose como hombre mancebo, y esforzáronsele los miembros y tornáronse lozanos. Y cerrose toda la llaga, y revivió luego Jasón. Y despertó y levantose así esforzado como hombre mancebo en el comienzo de la mejor edad que ser podría.

Medea, seeing in these herbs and in these virtues the confection that she had brewed, went to Jason and slit his throat. And she made flow all the ancient blood. And as the blood flowed she took the cauldron from over the fire with the herbs prepared, lukewarm as was required. And, since the blood had flowed, she plunged her hands into the cauldron and drew from the herbs and the juice; and she opened Jason’s mouth and poured from them into his mouth and from them she poured into the wound.

And (once the medicine was entering and descending his mouth and throat, and from the wound running over his breast) the hair of Jason’s beard and head—which had before been white as snow—began to leave that color behind and turned to black. And he swelled with flesh, and the color yellow and his emaciation left him, and his wrinkles were smoothed and he became as a young man, and his members became strong and sprite. And the whole wound closed up, and Jason was revived. And he awoke and stood up now hardy like a young man at the beginning of the best age that a being could be.
